THE JOY LUCK CLUB
The Joy Luck Club is a movie that is based on
Amy Tan's best-selling novel on 1989. This movie is a 1993 American film that tells
the story of four older women who were born in China but then, they eventually moved
to America for some reasons. These four women, moving in to America, and live
in San Francisco. Four of them regularly meet each other to do activities like
playing mahjong, eating together and tell stories. Since each of them has an
adult Chinese-American daughter, they love to share their own family stories
and compare it between them. All of them have the same experience of their
journey and the same reason on why they moved to the San Francisco, the place
where they met each other. However, in sharing stories of their families among
them, there are some stories that is not revealed. The reason why they
(mothers) moved to San Francisco is because they want to fight for their
daughters, they want to have a better life, and want to raise their daughters
perfectly, in a place that is far way better than their old place.
In my opinion, this film is one of the great
film that everyone should watch, and it should not be forgotten. There are many
elements on this film that we should focus on, such as the sacrifice, the
culture, and also on the feminism. The plot of this movie touches on the aspect
of life, thus, it will give a great effect on the audience who watched it and
the plot and the messages may touch the heart of the viewers. This movie will
leaves you with a feeling, and make you think back on the issue discussed, and
at the same time, will make you appreciate on what you have, and where you
live. In this movie, we can clearly see how they portrayed women, and how women
were treated in some places.
To relate it with the feminism, we see that
the China of the 1930s and 1940s, before the Revolution, was an unimaginably
different place than it is today. Women were valued differently,
and not highly valued. Those with independent minds and spirits were valued even less than the passive and obedient ones. During wartime especially, their life was like a piece of paper. A mother need to take a high risk, in taking care of their children. They are the one who are responsible for everything. From this movie, we can see that women have their own power, their own ability which men does not have. The feeling, the relationship and the responsibility that they carry is worth saying, and should be appreciated by the whole.

To conclude, the movie “The Joy Luck Club’’
should be watched by everyone no matter what gender you are, and it is highly
recommended, as it will gives you a new perception, and it is beyond your
expectation.
